David Lynch: Creativity Never Sleeps

As I've reported here earlier (scroll down), besides creating a commercial for the 2012 Vienna Film Festival, David has recorded an album, done another commercial (for Dom Perignon), and designed the interior of a Paris club whose name is derived from a fictitious one in his film Mulholland Drive.  Also in Paris, is a exhibit of his artwork. He's also edited an issue of Film and Music for The Guardian newspaper, as well as publish a book of drawings.

Also in The Guardian, is a report that 50 minutes of newly-discovered footage from Blue Velvet, re-edited and supervised by Lynch, was included in the 25th Anniversary Edition DVD. (Read about the Blu-ray release by Adam Jahnke at The Bottom Shelf.)

Yes, he's had a very busy, creative year and shows no signs of stopping.

Musically, David's past musical endeavours has always included his friend and fellow "partner-in-crime" creatively, Angelo Badalamenti. Last month, saw the release of Crazy Clown Time, a solo project endeavour, without previous collaborators Badalamenti, Sparklehorse and Danger Mouse, and pianist Marek Zebrowski.

A free download of the seven-minute title track is available at davidlynch.com (after submitting your email address). Posted on You Tube is a 22-minute preview of the album, a creation full of revealing influences of his past collaborations. Listen for yourself:

As reported at the NOWNESS website, David has been working on an ad for Dom Perignon, as well as designing the interior of Club Silencio in Paris.

Here's a video regarding his work with Dom Perignon:

Further details on this can be found here.

Also at NOWNESS is a look at David's interior designing skills. Inspired by the Club Silencio in Mulholland Drive, he was commissioned to create a real-life club. Since NOWNESS have created a beautiful layout, allow me to direct you to their site for images and text in regards to this venture.

NOWNESS: David Lynch's Club Silencio

David's creativity is truly abundant in may art forms, as we have seen. From what appears to be a collection of papers found in his desk drawers, and around his house, and probably his coat pockets, Steidl and Foundation Cartier have published Works On Paper.

To quote AnOther Magazine's Laura Bradley,  "He began drawing and painting in his early childhood and this vast collection of dreamlike sketches, watercolors and minimalist doodles – carefully conserved by Lynch since his adolescence and regularly used by him as a source of inspiration – offers a unique glimpse into the artist's creative process. Using all types of media, including Post-it notes, napkins and original screenplays for Blue Velvet and Twin Peaks, the diverse and complementary nature of these drawings allows us to dive into Lynch’s universe and establish links between his artwork and his films."
Also sponsored by the Foundation Cartier, is a current exhibit in Paris called "Mathematics - A Beautiful Elsewhere". An installation of new works, it not only includes drawings from Lynch, but also works from Patti Smith and Takeshi Kitano, amongst others.  As you can see from the poster, the exhibit runs until March 2012.
So it goes...... the 66 year old Lynch shows no sign of slowing down, which his fans are extremely grateful for.  Stay tuned.
