I'm Back !!!!!!

Hey everyone! I was gone, but hopefully not forgotten. What's it been? a couple of years or so?

A little explanation....I've been busy setting up and running a chillout jazz station, so that's been a taking up most of my free time. Check it out -> This is Lounge.

There's also some significance to this day - it is my birthday. Check out the horoscope in this morning's paper.

I've been getting all the usual birthday greetings on Facebook, from around the world. It is so very heartwarming to think that all these people remembered......  :-)

Anyway, I would like to try and continue with some posts here. I also have a Radio Zazoo blog set up, to back up the pirate broadcasts on Radiojive. I hope they still are broadcast! I was even considering setting up a second station - Radio Zazoo on the air 24/7! Eclectic, indie, alternative, punk, pop, dance, 50's to now.....we'll see...... maybe leave a comment either way. I'd love to hear.

Now, I'm off to enjoy my birthday!

Peter Godwin meets James Bond

It was reported this morning that the opening weekend gross earnings for the new James Bond film, Skyfall, was $87.8M.

That's wonderful news for the producers, and Adele, who performed the theme song. She'll be getting some hefty royalty cheques for that one.

But I wanted to bring to the world's attention, a wonderful alternative Bond theme, so to speak. As an homage to the Bond phenomenon, and their iconic John Barry-stylized theme songs in general, musician Peter Godwin wrote and recorded a wonderful Bond-ish sounding track. As he admits in the Comments of a You Tube post, he did submit the song to Adele for her consideration.....but it was not to be, as we all know.

Yes, this is the same Peter Godwin that graduated from 70's band Metro, and gave us that 80's synthpop treat, "Baby's In The Mountains". It should also be said that he never really stopped making music. Lately, he's been involved in a project called Nuevo, and he's also been trying to get his old 80's albums (i.e. rarity Images In Heaven) reissued.

For a taste of Nuevo "Chocolate", check out the delicious video here, and be sure to check out the band's website.

Of course, all of these video links, and more, can be accessed through Peter's You Tube channel as well.

But, to save you clicking there first, here's Sky Falls. You be the judge. Should Peter have been given the opportunity? Don't get me started on the Quantum of Solace theme. I really wasn't a fan of the Jack White/Alisha Keys final choice. Not that I don't like those artists, it's just the song....it's doesn't fit, in my opinion. Here's a rejected theme that should've/could've been. Again, should Eva Almer, a virtual unknown artist, have been given the nod on that one? Me? I'm still waiting for Portishead to be given the chance. I'm sure THAT would be something. Sorry to digress, here. Click on the image and enjoy one of Peter's latest. And be sure to support his other new material through the Nuevo site.

America, Please Get It Right

Consider this my one and only political entry in any of my blogs. It is direct and to the point.

Today is Election Day, U.S.A., and this is a plea to all of the American voters that may be reading this before going to the polls - Please think carefully before you vote! With a race so close to call, every single vote really counts.

With that said, America, please get it right. Don't forget that the current administration was saddled with the Pandora's Box of decisions and resulting actions of the Bush administration. Obama entered the White House with a political handicap.

No matter which candidate you have an affinity for, just be sure you get out and vote.

The whole world is watching.

Give Us The Money!

How to do good?
From Live Aid to Make Poverty History, celebrities have become activists against poverty. Bob Geldof and Bono have been the most prominent voices advocating on behalf of the poor. But have their concerts and campaigns really lifted millions out of poverty? Geldof, Bono and Bill Gates speak candidly about the ‘games’ involved in their years of lobbying, and how they played to politicians’ weaknesses for starry glitz and popularity. Director: Bosse Lindquist Producer: David Herdies

Interesting doc, coming to TVO on Sunday, November 25 at 9 PM

Did all of the world's donations really do any good? This is one of many documentaries on poverty that TVO  is bringing to our attention.

For more information, go to TVO's website.

New Look Inevitable

It may seem a little surreal seeing the screenshot above. The image within this image is to give a goodbye to this Blogger template that is (according to Blogger) no longer valid. If I ever want to remember how it looked, I'll have to go back to this entry. The signs of the design's demise are already present.
If you look to the right frame and "About Me", I am now "not specified, not specified", and my Links have all been eliminated, except for Google News, which I never put up as a link in the first place!

Rather than add new designs they are forcing us to change to a new design that they deem as "better" - more features for visitor analysis, no doubt.

Where have I heard this before?

I'm sure many, if not all of you, have Facebook pages and know exactly what I am talking about - Timeline! Timeline has gotta be the biggest "make work" project on the internet, giving work to all those techies at Facebook in the name of progress (?). They really should do an online poll to see how many people are happy with this page construction mess. My old page was more in order of time than this!

The internet is full of "if it's not broken, why fix it?" websites. Web designers galore are pushing to revamp pages to include all the latest widgets and wadgets, and things that will analyze the data of the visitors to your page. This, I'm sure, is most likely fed to some internet marketing company somewhere to predict trends in fashion, music, and whatever they see as "the next big thing".

I run a couple of other blogs, and no doubt they will be assimilated into the collective as well.  I guess that's the price of having something free on the internet.

Hey, sorry for the rant.....just something I wanted to get off my chest.

Oh, and another thing. Standing in line for my coffee this morning, I couldn't help but watch as the girl in front of me tweeted on her cellphone that "this was the second time this morning she was getting coffee." Has it come down to this? Have we not got anything better to do than to tell the world every silly little detail of our life? Is this girl going to tweet in another hour that she had to piss for a second time this morning because of that second coffee?

Without a Facebook page or Twitter account, one has become a social pariah. So, you better have content to put out there. I tell you, I'm questioning what I put up. Not for security sake, but for "who the heck would find this interesting enough?" sake. I am really close to either closing down my Facebook page or editing my list of Friends down to a minimum.

Somewhat in the same vein is the fact that I am now questioning whether it is worth it to maintain a land phone line. With the majority of inbound calls being from thosy annoying telemarketers, the only consistent use I'm getting out of it is my internet access. But, I am told there is a way around that if I get rid of my land line to keep my internet access.  I'm sure there are many people who have already left their land line in favour of a cellphone-only lifestyle.

Have I become a grumpy old man, afraid of change? I always thought that new technology was so cool. Where did my idealisms, etc. regarding progress go?

We all feel nostalgic at some point for the way things were. It's only human!  Change is inevitable. New looks are inevitable. Progress is ineveitable. Death and taxes are inevitable.

......I need a drink.....

10/30/2012 - Well, nothing has changed. Looks like my blog is not changing. Looking back, it appears I ranted for nothing. But I still have to fix the links......someday. Stay tuned....
