The Blue Seeds: Germinating Soundscapes

This Montreal band came to my attention after I had the pleasure of hearing their song, Lost Highway, for the first time today. They would be pleased to know that they have another fan in me.

Since the title evokes a David Lynch-ian atmosphere, I was not disappointed to discover that that is exactly the sound they were going for. This track would definitely not be out of place on the jukebox in the diner in Twin Peaks.

To quote their bio, "The Blue Seeds has....succeeded in creating it's own unique soundscape that is as mysterious as a David Lynch movie and as refined as Wim Wenders' pictures. A must listen album for all Neko Case and Portishead's aficianados."

The cinematic references are well deserved. One can often envision the sounds as music from an imaginary film. Their rich, textural arrangements are filled with the sounds of a wide variety of instruments - electric guitars, analog keyboards, mellotron, and even vibraphone.

Their sound has not gone unnoticed, as Kid Loco has given them a remix, downloadable for free from the band's website. Their debut album, recorded in Montreal and Faenza, Italy, also boasts the collaboration of Dustin O'Hallaran of the Devics. The track "My Fair Weather Friend" has also been included in the film "Degrassi Goes Hollywood" as well the the soundtrack. Needless to say, they are bursting with promise.

Enjoy a taste of the multi-instrumental debut, and be sure to visit their website to hear samples of the rest of the album, which can be purchased by direct download from the site.
