Totally Shameless Plug #0005

Time for another Totally Shameless Plug.

Like many GM owners, after locking and unlocking my car doors with that teardrop-shaped key fob a zillion times, I found that some of the buttons eventually refused to work anymore. The trunk release button and the alarm button are the only two left working on mine.

Also, like many people, I replaced the battery, only to discover that that was not the solution. Aaaarrrggghhh!!!! Was this my only recourse? Or would I just have to grin and bear it, and live with it?

Well, I lived with it like this for many months - I can't even remember when it first started to die! Anyway, enough was enough. Perhaps GM could sell me a new key fob. So, like anyone else, I turned to the internet, and typed "GM replacement key fob" into Google. Perhaps there was one available in a nearby GM dealership's Parts Dept.

Well, lo and behold, at the top of Google's search results was a link to a company website called Keylessfix.com. Below that result, was a link to a You Tube video showing just how easy it was to fix that burned out key fob. Not being as splashy as some of those TV infomercials, it was pretty damned convincing nonetheless.

Like any skeptical web user. I first thought that this looked too good to be true - a possible internet scam?  I mean, what can a thin strip of plastic and some metallic discs do to resuscitate my dead key fob?….and for 10 bucks????!!! You know, from the looks of it on the video and the website, the parts looked pretty minimal, maybe worth less than a dollar! Was I being "taken"?

After contemplating the thought of throwing my money away as a victim to a scam, I decided "what the heck", and threw caution to the wind. If it didn't work, I could always try getting refunded through the credit card company……and if that failed, then I guess I was out $10, with a lesson learned. My other actions and ideas failed to result in anything, so what other choices did I have?

WELL…….

I'm here today to pleasantly report that it was probably the best $10 I spent this year. (Yes, forego that pack of smokes and regain that freedom of locking and unlocking your GM car at 50 paces once again!) Yes folks, this is not a scam. I ordered 2 pads (one extra for the spare key) for $21, including taxes and shipping. Heck, I think it only took a couple of days from the time I ordered till the time it arrived! Excellent service! Especially at Christmas! Since the pads are so thin, they arrived, undetected, in a normal #10 envelope, along with the easy installation instructions, which reiterated what was shown on the You Tube video.

So there you have it: another totally shameless (and unsolicited) plug (and testimonial) for a product that has brought freedom back to my parked car and it's security. If you or a friend is in the same predicament, and you don't feel like struggling with your keys in the door during a blizzard this winter (or next), I totally recommend giving this a shot. Check out the website to see if the pads are compatible with your GM model.

Thank you Keylessfix.com for this. Beside replacing my broken electric garage door opener a month ago, this was probably THE best Christmas present I never got!

Merry Christmas, everyone and Happy New Year!
