Happy (Belated) Birthday, Anita!

With my schedule being as hectic as it has been this past week, I failed to pass along my birthday greetings on September 29, with regards to the lovely lady pictured to the left. Time, it seems, has not been too kind to her youthful beauty, as captured forever in Federico Fellini's famous La Dolce Vita. Current photos can be found around the net, but I prefer to remember "Sylvia" just.....like.....this.......

So, Happy 80th Birthday, Anita. We shall always have this iconic film scene to enjoy forever.....

David Lynch's new short - The 3 R's

Commissioned by the Vienna International Film Festival, acclaimed director David Lynch has created a 73-second commercial for the renowned fest.

In keeping with the mysterio man that he is, and the cryptic, thought-provoking, head-scratching images and accompanying sounds that are the films of Mr. Lynch, this commercial short is not any different.

It begins with what seems to be a fly's point-of-view of a man, seemingly known as "Pete" (with weird bug eyes!?) holding a rock in each hand. Like some strange, lost educational film from the 50's, we are asked to answer the question, "How many rocks does Pete have?". Incorrect answers are written in chalk by two different women in a darkened room.

What all this has to do with films and the festival is anyone's guess.  Is Pete a symbol for the festival? Are the rocks a symbol for the films? Is Pete a reference to the Twin Peaks' character? And what does the title "The 3R's" refer to? Try to decipher for yourself as you watch.......
