Accidents Will Happen....

"Oh, I just don't know where to begin...."
It's a sign of the season, unfortunately, but just over a week ago, I was involved in a car accident. Thankfully, no one was injured, but it could have been far worse.

The car with the "accordioned" front end was being driven by a drunk driver. While stopped at a red light, he rear-ended the Ford Escape, also pictured, who in turn, was pushed into me.
The damage to my car was minimal, as you can see from the picture on the right - crushed bumper and trunk lid basically, and no physical damage to me.
Let me take this time to reiterate the message "Don't Drink and Drive"!
About 2 kms. ahead through the light was a nearby high school. With the accident happening about 3:00 PM, as classes were ending, one can only imagine the worst-case possibilities. It's almost reassuring that our cars may have prevented an injury, or even death, of a student crossing the street.

While my Grand Prix was in the car hospital, I was given this little Mazda 2 (pictured left) to motor around the city in. At first, I was a little disappointed. I mean, a little four-cylinder was a huge step down from the six-cylinder in the Pontiac.
But, you know, I started to get a kick out of it. It was pretty good on mileage, as long as you weren't too "lead footed" on the accelerator. There was no power door locks or remote trunk release, but that didn't matter too much.
Anyway, my car is back home now. But being collateral damage in a DUI's mishap, and thinking that we took one more off the road without killing anyone, has given me food for thought during this festive season. Please take heed and arrange a ride home after drinking, or designate a driver not to drink. You could alternate - one night your friend drives, the next time you do. Responsible drinking means reponsible driving.
I had to include music in this post, as I didn't want to end on such a morbid note. So, enjoy the song related to the title of this post.
